Training

Accredited training

Stemming from either a successful host employment placement or from opportunities that have arisen from community projects or business enterprise, participants are offered placements in either traineeships, apprenticeships or other accredited processes. A number of examples where MPREC has successfully implemented such a program include:

  • Indigenous Bus Drivers Program (STEP)
  • Indigenous Sport and Recreation Traineeships (STEP)
  • Indigenous Youth Worker Traineeships (STEP)
  • Business Administrations Traineeships (STEP) — supporting the CWP Secretariat Support initiative of COAG
  • Horticulture and Landscape Trainees (STEP)

Short courses

A critical factor for the successful transition to employment is the acquisition of key skills. MPREC places a high degree of importance on each CDEP participant obtaining their OHS White Card, First Aid certificate, and Drivers License. The MPREC Training Unit coordinates the delivery of these courses. Other courses are offered depending on their suitability, including:

  • Chemical Handling
  • Chainsaw Operations
  • Sewing - Clothing & Textiles
  • Introduction to Computers
  • Pre-employment skills

Driver training

MPREC delivers a range of driver training programs. These programs are developed in partnership with the State Debt Recovery Office, the Ministry of Transport and the Roads and Traffic Authority. The courses assist those with fines to initiate payment processes; provide support and mentoring to successfully complete the Driver Knowledge Tests; and provide Driver Instruction in order to obtain a Probationary Licence.

Training Centre

MPREC opened a Training Centre in Coonamble in 2007. The training centre provides the following facilities for training purposes: commercial kitchen, training room, computer lab, music room and sewing room.
